The Wyndham area in Melbourne’s outer west covers more than 5490 square kilometres, with a population of 128,282 in June 2007. Suburbs in the municipality include Hoppers Crossing, Laverton, Point Cook, Tarneit, Werribee and Wyndham Vale
The City of Wyndham is one of Australia’s fastest growing municipalities. Its population is expected to skyrocket to over 202,000 by 2021. The city has experienced almost 6 per cent growth per annum, and this equates to about five families moving in every day.
Located between Melbourne and Geelong, Wyndham offers numerous employment and tourism opportunities, as a link between the capital and Victoria’s largest regional centre.
Wyndham boasts industrial areas, technology districts, retail precincts and farming areas.
The area acts as a tourism hub, with Werribee Park Mansion, Victoria’s Open Range Zoo at Werribee, the State Equestrian Centre, the Point Cook Homestead and the Point Cook RAAF Museum, all on the outskirts of the municipality.
The population boom over the last few years is mainly thanks to the housing developments in Tarneit, Point Cook, Truganina and Wyndham Vale.
